Undergraduate Research
The Hughes Undergraduate Biology program supports summer undergraduate research through the Complex Biological Systems Summer Undergraduate Research Program. This program is open to both MSU and non-MSU eligible undergraduates (see CBS Summer Program page for specifics). For a brochure on the 2008 CBS-SURP program, click here.
In cooperation with the American Indian Research Opportunities office, stipends are provided for five Native American MSU students to conduct research during the year as part of MSU's Initiative for Minority Student Development (IMSD) Program. Students participate in academic enhancement activities and biomedical research projects and are expected to prepare and present their research findings at a scientific meeting. The academic enhancement and laboratory research work is part-time during the academic year and full-time for 10 weeks during the summer.
From our Past CBS Summer Program Participants:
"I had never worked in a lab, so it was really great to experience lab dynamics and basics. Also, I feel like I began to think more inquisitively. It was important to learn how to present a talk, and create a poster."
"I was able to work with a group of people, my mentor included, who were extremely excited about their work."
"I can't say enough about how great the program was last summer. I really enjoyed it, and it was possibly the best experience during my education at MSU."
